Gary Owen In Glory * * *
**************************************************************************
Originally an Irish ballad, Gary Owen was adapted as the regimental march of the US Seventh Cavalry. Gen. George Armstrong Custer heard the song among his Irish cavalry troopers. He liked the melody and the fact that it matched the troops cadence while on march.
Gen. Custer was called 'the Boy General' , when he fought during the American Civil War.(bet not to his face). He graduated from West Point in 1861. The fact is, the troops under his command made very significant contributions on more than one occasion. The significance of these contributions has probably been underestimated. He was well liked by the troops and no one doubted his bravery or his skill. General Sheridan thought enough of him to intercede on his behalf. This was after the war and Custer's 'heart' had overuled his head. That caused him to leave his post to see about his wife, only problem it was not authorized. Sheridan needed hard chargers and Custer was the man for the job, regardless of what armchair historians, who comfortably sit by the fireside and spout, say. History has given him a mixed review. To say that his life was other than a testament to Duty, Honor and Country would be a large mistake and an unrealistic assessment of the times in which Custer lived. He is buried at West Point, NY.

Gary Owen Song lyrics
********************************
Let Bacchus' sons be not dismayed
But join with me, each jovial blade
Come, drink and sing and lend your aid
To help me with the chorus:
chorus:
Instead of spa, we'll drink brown ale
And pay the reckoning on the nail;
No man for debt shall go to jail
From Garryowen in glory.
We'll beat the bailiffs out of fun,
We'll make the mayor and sheriffs run
We are the boys no man dares dun
If he regards a whole skin.
chorus
Our hearts so stout have got no fame
For soon 'tis known from whence we came
Where'er we go they fear the name
Of Garryowen in glory.

Gary Owen Song 7th Cavalry Version lyrics
***************************************
Leader sings the lines of the verses, and the group yells back "Sgt. Flynn"
and "Gary Owen" at the end of each of those lines.
chorus: Gary Owen, Gary Owen, Gary Owen
In the valley of Montana all alone
There are better days to be
In the seventh cavalry
When we charge again For dear old Gary Owen.
I can hear those Sioux bucks singing, Sgt. Flynn
I can hear those tom-toms ringing, Sgt. Flynn
I can hear those Sioux bucks singing,
I can here those tom-toms ringing,
But they don't yet know the tune to Gary Owen.
It's first call I hear it sounding, Sgt. Flynn
And it sounds like taps a-rounding, Sgt. Flynn
Oh me lads, here's something fancy
Take a break, it's Private Clancy
And you'll feel better when he strikes up Gary Owen
For it's Boots and Saddles sounding, Sgt. Flynn
Along the line the men are bounding, Sgt. Flynn
So let' saddle-up and fall in
For the trumpets are callin'
And the band is tuning up for Gary Owen.
For it's forward we're advancing, Sgt. Flynn
And the breeze guides are a-lancing, Sgt. Flynn
Walk, trot, gallop, charge by thunder,
We will ride those cut throats under.
Drive your sabers to the hilt for Gary Owen.
We are ambushed and surrounded, Sgt. Flynn
Yet recall has not been sounded, Sgt. Flynn
Gather round me and we'll rally
Make one last stand in the valley
For the Seventh Regiment and Gary Owen.
You are cut, and scalped, and battered, Sgt. Flynn
All your men are dead and scattered, Sgt. Flynn
I will make your bed tomorrow
With my head bowed down in sorrow.
O'er your grave, I'll whistle Taps And Gary Owen.

She Wore a Yellow Ribbon Song lyrics
*******************************
Around her neck
She wore a yellow ribbon,
She wore it in the springtime
And in the month of May.
And if you asked her
Why the heck she wore it,
She'd say "It's for my lover
Who is far, far away".
Far away!
Far away!
She wore it for her lover far away.
Around her neck she wore a yellow ribbon.
She wore it for her lover who is far, far away!

She Wore A Yellow Ribbon Song -Army Version lyrics
*******************************************
Around her neck she wore a yellow ribbon
She wore it in the springtime
And in the month of May
And if you ask me why the heck she wore it
She wore it for her soldier who was far far away
Far away, far away
She wore it for her soldier
Who was far, far away
Around the block she pushed a baby carriage
She pushed it in the springtime
And in the month of May
And if you ask me why the heck she pushed it
She pushed it for her soldier who was far far away
Far away, far away
She pushed it for her soldier
Who was far, far away
Behind the door her daddy kept a shotgun
He kept it in the springtime
And in the month of May
And if you ask me why the heck he kept it
He kept it for her soldier who was far far away
Far away, far away
He kept it for her soldier
Who was far, far away
